Not Alone

Read: Hebrews 10:19-25 (KJV)

19Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; 21And having an high priest over the house of God; 22Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. 23Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) 24And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

What it means

The writer of Hebrews tells believers not to give up meeting together, as some were in the habit of doing. That habit is easy to fall into after you leave home. Sunday becomes a day to sleep in, and church feels optional when nobody you know is there. But the passage gives a reason to gather that goes beyond obligation: we need each other to keep going. We are told to consider one another, to think carefully about how to stir each other up toward love and good works. Faith was never meant to be a solo project. Loneliness is one of the hardest parts of this season of life, and isolation makes every struggle heavier. Finding a church, a campus ministry, or even two or three friends who follow Jesus is not extra credit. It is part of how God keeps you close. You may have to be the one who reaches out first, says hello, or starts the group. That small step of courage can change your whole year.

Key verse

“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:”

Hebrews 10:24 (KJV)

Think about it

  1. When was the last time you felt truly known by other believers?
  2. What keeps you from getting connected to a church or campus group: time, fear, past hurt, not knowing where to start?
  3. Name one person you could invite to church, to coffee, or to read the Bible with this week.
