The Battle Is the Lord's

Today's Bible story

From 1 Samuel 17:41-50

Goliath walked toward David. When he saw that David was young, he made fun of him. But David was not afraid. David said, "You come to me with a sword and a spear. But I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel." David said that everyone would know there is a God in Israel. He said, "The battle is the LORD's." Then Goliath came closer. David ran toward him. He reached into his bag and took out one stone. He put it in his sling and let it fly. The stone hit Goliath on the forehead, and the giant fell down to the ground. David won with just a sling and a stone. He did not win because he was big or strong. He won because God was with him. When you face something big and hard, you can remember David. You do not have to be big. You just need to trust our big God.

Talk about it

  1. Whose name did David come in?
  2. How many stones did David need to use?
  3. What is something big and hard you can trust God with?

Pray

Dear God, thank You that the battle belongs to You. When I face big things, help me trust You and be brave like David. In Jesus' name, Amen.
