David Trusts God

Today's Bible story

From 1 Samuel 17:31-40

Soon King Saul heard about David and sent for him. David said, "Do not be afraid of this giant. I will go and fight him." Saul said, "You cannot. You are only a young man, and he has been a soldier for a long time." But David told Saul a story. "When I was keeping my father's sheep, a lion and a bear came and took a lamb. I went after them and saved the lamb. The LORD saved me from the lion and the bear. He will save me from this Philistine too." Saul said, "Go, and the LORD be with you." Saul put his own armor on David. He gave him a bronze helmet, a coat of armor, and his sword. But David had never worn armor before. He could hardly walk in it. So David took it all off. Instead, he took his shepherd's staff. He went to a stream and picked five smooth stones. He put them in his bag. Then, with his sling in his hand, David walked toward the giant.
