David Plays for the King
Today's Bible story
From 1 Samuel 16:14-23
King Saul was the king of Israel. But Saul had stopped obeying God, and now he was very troubled. His heart had no peace. Saul's servants had an idea. "Let us find someone who can play the harp," they said. "The music will help you feel better." One servant said, "I know a young man who plays well. He is the son of Jesse. He is brave, he speaks well, and the LORD is with him." That young man was David! King Saul sent a message to Jesse asking for David. Jesse sent David with bread, a bottle of wine, and a young goat as gifts for the king. Saul liked David very much. David became the one who carried the king's armor. Whenever Saul felt troubled, David would take his harp and play. Then Saul would feel better, and the trouble would leave him. David was a shepherd, and he was also a helper. God used him in small ways before He used him in big ways.
Verse to remember
“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
Psalm 23:1 (KJV)
Talk about it
- What instrument did David play?
- How did David's music help King Saul?
- What is one small way you can help someone this week?
Pray
Dear God, thank You for the gifts You have given me. Help me use them to help others, just like David did. In Jesus' name, Amen.
